How Did I Get Here?
24 Aug 2023

And you may find yourself living in a shotgun shack
And you may find yourself in another part of the world
And you may find yourself behind the wheel of a large automobile
And you may find yourself in a beautiful house, with a beautiful wife
And you may ask yourself, "Well, how did I get here?"

Letting the days go by, let the water hold me down
Letting the days go by, water flowing underground
Into the blue again, after the money's gone
Once in a lifetime, water flowing underground

Hydro Flexin': Why your next board should have Hydroflex 3D glass
09 Aug 2023

While not exactly new technology, even to this day vacuum bag lamination is probably not the standard for most surfers out there, but I'm going to venture to say it should be. I would guess most surfers are grabbing off the rack boards and heading straight to the beach, but for those of you who have gotten to the point of ordering custom boards, down to the foam density, stringer thickness, airbrush colors, cloth weight, fin set up, etc... you need to take a look at the Hydroflex 3D glass jobs and whether it's an option for your next... read more

Worst Guest Ever Part 1: The Hans
07 Aug 2023

A pre-amble and post script combined into one… I wrote this article about The Hans last year and never posted it. I just felt it might be too negative and it's sofaking long! Then this last week I had a group of guests come in and one of them innocently asked “do you ever get really bad guests?”. I went into a condensed version of the 9,455 words written below and during that description the guests eyes widened and he asked, “did he have a bowl cut?”.

“Yes, he did have a bowl cut.” I replied.

“Was this about July?” he continued.

“Yes it... read more

Fin Review: AU Fins
07 Jul 2023

You might have heard about them, seen them, or even ridden them, though if you did, there's a good chance you're still riding them! I have to admit, when I first saw a set of AU fins, I was reminded of Kevin Costner in the movie "Tin Cup"....there's a point where he's lost his mojo on the golf course so he's resorted to every contraption invented trying to find his groove again. He looks ridiculous and at first sight I thought the curve of the AU fins was ridiculous too, a gimmick at best. I'm here to say, it's science!

Mechanics of Puerto Sandino: Black Holes and other Treasures
21 Feb 2020

Puerto Sandino is the best wave in Nicaragua, ergo, Central America. I've surfed a lot of Central America, not all of it, and while arguments can be made from all sides and even taking into account my bias, I'll say it again- Puerto Sandino is the best wave in Nicaragua. I've read before on Surfline that Nicaragua doesn't have world class waves, but Puerto Sandino is proof that statement is not true.
