Surf Report — August 3, 2026

Observed 7:15 AM
Wave Size chest to head
Wind light offshore to nil
Conditions clean, no barrels, some runners
Tide high at 5:30 and dropping
Best For All Levels
Recommended Zone The back corner at miramar point on the inside edge of the reef
Rating 4/10

Continued small waves today with just some shoulder high runners along the inside edge of the reef. A few are standing up out the back, but they’re few and far between and not worth chasing. The right on the jetty has some good bowls…a little refraction wedge that is coming off the jetty. This is a good chance for sand to build up at Sandino which took a big hit from the tropical storm. The main sandbar has been building up, but lack some volume and structure …but it’s very promising and hard to be patient with it…but in the mean time we just surf other stuff. Stay tuned, we’ll be getting some more water shots as our new photographer Ethan gets here tomorrow;-). Go Surf!

The bluest skies, offshore winds, azure waters. 🌊☀️

It is an idyllic day here in Nicaragua. Great day to learn how to surf, great day to be in the ocean cooling off, and the waves are holding.

It’s not quite as big as the forecast made it out to be, but there’s still plenty of energy in the water to push us along and plenty of fun waves to be had.

Right now, we’re just trying to make the most of this medium-high tide before it fills in too much. The good news is the offshore winds look like they’re going to stay consistent all day, so there should be a couple of other options for sessions later.

But in the meantime, what’s right in front of us looks pretty damn good.

We’re going surfing. You should too. 🤙🏽

Punta Miramar Surf Report 🌊

Good morning, this is Goyo with the surf observations for Punta Miramar.

It’s about 6:20 a.m., and there’s a new swell arriving. As expected, the new swell is long-period and sending in some lines with occasional corners, though we’re at kind of an in-between tide right now.

A lower tide would probably be better for the outer reef. With the tide coming in, it might not be working as well on the inner sandbars, so we’re going to head down to the reefs at Playa Hermosa and look around.

There’s definitely some swell standing up on the outer reef. With the current tide, the waves aren’t quite breaking out there—they’re rolling through and then reforming closer to the inside. So we’re going to see where the swell is focusing on the reefs and try to find some corners and open faces.

My guess is Salinas Grande is probably a little too closed out right now with the long-period swell, but it should be good on the back end of the swell as the period comes down.

It also looks like it’s going to be big enough for Outer Miramar to start working, and there’s a good chance Puerto Sandino will be working as well. It’s had some time to recoup after the storm, so we’ll be checking on that and reporting back.

As usual, the surf report is: GO SURF. 🤙🏽

And if you do, we hope you do it here in Nicaragua with us at Sirena Surf Lodge.

El Tránsito Delivers 🌊

We mimicked yesterday morning’s efforts and headed back to El Tránsito just after first light.

If you listened to my Instagram report, you probably heard me babble for three minutes about how I don’t really love Transito. 😂 But I have to give credit where credit is due—today, Transito was in fine form.

I love to hate on it because it’s basically the kiddie pool. It doesn’t usually offer up the kind of heavy waves that get hardcore surfers excited.

But honestly, that’s exactly what makes it great.

Sometimes you don’t need heavy. Sometimes you just want clean, user-friendly waves where you can relax, catch a bunch of rides, work on your surfing, and have fun.

That was this morning.

I kicked back, watched our guests surf, took photos, and enjoyed a beautiful morning at the beach.

Rest assured, there’s heavier swell on the way—and as things get bigger and more serious, we’ll keep chasing it and bringing you the reports. But in the meantime, enjoy the mellow stuff while it lasts.

And don’t forget our August anniversary special.

Book during August for a trip this year or next and receive 10% off in celebration of our 10-year anniversary at Sirena Surf Lodge. Repeat guests get 15% off.

After 15 years of operating as a surf guide here in Nicaragua, it’s a great opportunity for us to show a little love back to the people who’ve shown us so much love over the years.

And in the meantime, as usual…

Goya’s advice: Go surf. 🤙🌊

Surf Report — August 5, 2026

Observed 8:00 AM
Wave Size waist to shoulder
Wind light offshore
Conditions clean, but almost no energy
Tide high and dropping soon
Best For All Levels
Recommended Zone Laybacks on the couch!
Rating 2/10

Painfully small… especially when you follow that tiny little dribble right onto the shallow reef. It’s not razor sharp reef, but it’s like that side of the cheese grater that’s made for sanding down nutmeg and knuckles. It works on soft salt soaked feet as well! There were actually a couple of waves that broke a little farther out, but trust me, it wasn’t worth the wait…or was it? I think if you’re from an East facing coast, it might have been worth waiting for a few. If you’re a West Coaster, Pacific Islander, or a wave pool junkie… probably a great day to sleep in, drink too much and binge on food, netflix or naps. Give it a couple more days and I’ll hopefully have something more exciting to report. Looking forward to seeing how the Sandino sand bar is after some calm seas… there’s been a little bit of rain too, maybe not enough to drive a lot of sediment, but at this point every little bit helps. Who is this fucking El Niño kid anyway…I wanna kick his ass;-)

Surf Report — August 2, 2026

Observed 3:15 PM

Tide 1/3 tide and filling in
Best For All Levels
Recommended Zone shack, shifties, miramar
Rating 5/10

🌊 Surf Report – August 2, 2026

Conditions remain on the smaller side, but there’s still consistent energy in the water. Most forecast models are calling for 2–3 feet, but the actual breaking wave faces are closer to 4–6 feet. That’s a common difference here in Nicaragua, where forecast models often underestimate the size of waves breaking over our reefs and sandbars.

With today’s conditions, the high-tide breaks continue to be the best choice. Expect fun surf at Shacks, Shifties, Punta Miramar, Hermosa, and Transito during the morning high tide. If you miss that early window, Salinas Grande is the best option through the dropping mid tide and again as the afternoon tide begins to push back in after the midday low.

Today’s surf is ideal for fish, grovelers, funboards, mid-lengths, and longboards. It’s also an excellent time for beginners, kids, and anyone looking to improve their surfing without dealing with heavy overhead barrels. If you’ve been wanting to build confidence, work on turns, or simply catch more waves, these are about as friendly as Nicaragua gets.

We’ll continue to monitor conditions throughout the day and update the report if anything changes.

Surf Report — August 1, 2026

Main written observation:

Small waves today, though good offshore flow and slightly overcast skies. Perfect conditions for beginners, intermediates and even some punchier ones for advanced surfers, though Salinas Grande is probably where the largest and fastest waves will be found today. Other spots like Transito, Hermosa, Shacks, Shifties and Punta Miramar should all be good around the medium high to high tides. A boat ride to salinas is a good choice on a medium tide if you want to find a barrel…or 10;-)Surf Report — August 1, 2026
